The 11th generation Honda Civic Hatch has been launched in Australia with a starting price of AUD 47,200 (USD 33,700).

Australians have been able to buy the 10th-generation Civic hatchback for as low as 31,000 Australian dollars (22,100 US dollars), but for this new model, Honda Australia has decided to launch a well-equipped model called the VTi-LX. It will be launched locally on December 6, and the price is much higher than that of the upcoming models. Honda hopes to position it as a higher-quality product.

Powering the Honda Civic Hatch VTi-LX is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine that can output 175 horsepower (131 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 177 lb-ft at 1,700 to 4,500 rpm (240 Nm) of torque. The engine is connected to a continuously variable transmission that drives the front wheels. Next year, with the advent of Honda's e:HEV hybrid system, this range will be expanded. Then, the upcoming new Civic Type R will go beyond that range.

Civic VTi-LX provides three driving modes, namely ECON, Normal and the new Sport mode. Sport mode activates the CVT's exclusive shift map and changes the gear ratio to ensure that the speed remains above 2,000 rpm, unless stopped or driven at low speed.

Civic VTi-LX comes standard with many important functions. These include blind spot monitoring, rear intersection warning, traffic jam assist, driver attention monitoring, 9-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay, Qi wireless mobile phone charger, wireless update, soundproof windshield, heating and automatic retractable wings Rearview mirror, Plasmacluster ion-based air purification system, four-way electric adjustable front passenger seat, environmental door trim and front footwell lighting.

"The 11th-generation Civic represents a revolution for Honda in the field of small cars. The new model enhances the key elements of the Honda brand, such as craftsmanship, high-quality and intuitive design," Honda Australia Director Stephen Collins said in a statement. "On the eve of its 50th anniversary, Honda’s designers and engineers have taken the Civic to a whole new level, producing cars that are more advanced, refined, and better than ever before. For Australia, the new Civic has been Designated to attract new target customers, which is consistent with the higher-end trend of the Civic nameplate and the Honda brand as a whole."
